Skin Western Burgundy Faded Leather Snip Genuine Ladies Teju Boots Toe The exhibition, curated by the 10 participants chosen last May, takes as the starting point the ‘garden’ as a poetic and organisational figure; the garden as a space for multiple relationships. It is not an idealised space, but one riven with tensions: nature-culture, care-domestication, life-death. Ruin and disappearance, garden and cemetery. Moreover, it may not even be a place but an attitude, a way of being somewhere without wanting to take it over. The garden as an ecology where there are several participants; the garden as a model to understand the process of collective work; in short, an exhibition as a garden.

Participants in New Curators: Valerio Del Baglivo, Ángel Calvo Ulloa, Irati Irulegi, Laura Diez, Leyre Goikoetxea, Natasha Kadin, Pilar Cruz, Iker Fidalgo, Sonia Fernández Pan and Juan Luis Toboso. With Aimar Arriola, Tamara Díaz Bringas and Sabel Gavaldón.

Throughout 2016 the meetings with a laboratory format have taken place in these three cities, dealing with curatorial practices that conclude with this exhibition that takes place at two moments and at two locations: December-January in Azkuna Zentroa and January-February 2017 in Montehermoso. The starting point of the project is the paradigm that associates the function of the curator with that of the translator and it has led to the ‘garden’ as a poetic and organisational figure, thanks to a series of meetings and a collective work methodology about the curator’s practice.

The presentation in Azkuna Zentroa has as its central feature the video-installation ‘The Great Silence’, 2014, by Allora & Calzadilla (USA and Cuba, 1974 & 1971. They live in Puerto Rico), exhibited in this room. This large-format work approaches the tension between nature and culture through the juxtaposition of images by the largest radio telescope located in Puerto Rico and the off-camera sound of a native species of parrots that are in danger of extinction.

Along with the video-installation by Allora & Calzadilla there is also a selection of photographic images taken by philosopher, poet, ethnologist and translator Emilio Araúxo (Coles-Galicia, 1946). Printed as a poster, distributed throughout the city and available at the entrance of this room, these images focus their attention in the disappearance of peasantry from the world.

The exhibition in Azkuna Zentroa is completed with the performance ‘Belladona’ by artist Alex Cecchetti (Terni, Italy, 1977), which will be held on 17 January in the Auditorium, as well as a series of activities with local agents in different locations around the city.

The second moment of the project will take place in Montehermoso, Vitoria-Gasteiz, in the shape of a collective exhibition with works by artists Emilio Araúxo, Pedro Barateiro, Zigor Barayazarra, Josu Bilbao, Lúa Coderch, Janice Kerbel, Irene Kopelman, Louisa Martin, Amaia Molinet, Eriz Moreno, Enrique Radigales, Rodríguez-Méndez, Eulàlia Rovira & Adrian Schindler and Tina Vukasović.

Komisario berriak (new curators): Valerio del Baglivo, Ángel Calvo Ulloa, Pilar Cruz, Laura Díez, Sonia Fernández Pan, Iker Fidalgo, Leyre Goikoetxea, Irati Irulegi, Natasha Kadin, Juan Luis Toboso, accompanied by Aimar Arriola, Tamara Díaz Bringas and Sabel Gavaldon.
